Achievement Points

We want our students’ efforts to be recognised throughout the school day, so all staff can award an achievement point for a variety of reasons, such as, good attitude to learning, great response to a question, excellent piece of work, etc. These are logged directly onto the school system electronically and students in the Top 50 of their Year Group will be recognised at the end of every Half Term.

Alongside contributing to their overall House totals (more details below), the achievement points that a student collects individually are recognised through praise and reward. At Aston Academy, recognition of our students' efforts helps to foster a students’ belief in their own abilities and helps them desire to succeed in School.

Rewards choices may include:

  • Vouchers
  • Stationery
  • Trips
  • Activities
  • Sports events
  • Film afternoons
  • Front of queue passes

Proud Thursday

Every Thursday during lunchtime in the student reception area, we celebrate some of the fantastic work created by our students throughout the week. Students bring along a piece of work they are proud of and receive a certificate and 5 achievement points.

The House System

Students in Years 7 - 11 are part of our House System. There are four houses, with each tutor group belonging to a specific house.

The four House Crests and Names below originate from the owners and inhabitants of Aston Hall. The Aston Estate originally laid claim to Aston Hall, 11 farms and the whole of the Villages of Aston and Netherthorpe.

Each house is led by 2 members of Aston Academy teaching staff, with a coordinator overseeing events. Students gain individual achievement points that contribute towards their overall house total. Achievement points are awarded for attendance, academic progress, sports, resilience, community tasks and extra-curricular participation. Achievement points are also gained through our half termly House challenges and competitions.

Throughout the school year, we hold a range of house competitions and challenges. For each competition, each house will have a team of students that represents them. The competitions will take place after school from 3pm – 4pm.

The competitions include:

  • The Great House Bake Off
  • Badminton
  • Football
  • Science Competition
  • Rounders
  • Basketball
  • Dance
  • House Quiz
  • MFL Competition
  • Table Tennis
  • Trampolining

After each competition, achievement points are awarded for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. All competition points added together with each student’s individual total, give the overall score.

When a competition is organised, the two House Leaders will visit tutor groups and ask for volunteers to represent the House team. Competitions are structured to ensure that all students that want to take part have the opportunity. This means all our competitions are open to everyone so come and get involved!
